Mixed U12 Ebors York Cubs5 - 1Win
A recent resurgence in York Cubs form meant that this fixture could not be taken lightly. Fortunately we were straight on the front foot with Olllie stroking home our opener with only 60 seconds on the clock.

Fulford attacked relentlessly for much of the first half. Jordan added a second after 10 minutes at which point Peter switched Dougie to be a third striker. It took him only a matter of minutes to place the ball neatly into the back of the Cubs net for 3-0. In fact, after 20 minutes we could have been 10 or more to the good. We were totally dominant and only some fine 'keeping from Ed Fricker in the Cubs goal kept the scoreline to 3.

Cubs did manage to get one back before the break. A punt downfield evaded Ethan and allowed their striker to run on to the loose ball and poke it past Jake.

At half time the boys were praised for their effort, quality of play and particularly the number of on target opportunities we had created.

The intention today was to have some rotation - both subs and positions. These changes did unsettle and unbalance the team a little both before and after half time. The result was that for a moment there were fears that Cubs might make it 3-2. With final planned changes made and Doug reverting to the centre of defence we again looked rock solid at the back and were creating chances up front. Louis took a knock which meant Andy came on for a minute while Louis recovered. Andy immediately joined an attacking move and fired a firm shot across the goalkeeper to make it 4-1. Cubs weren't coming back from that and an emphatic victory was sealed when Ollie blasted in one of his trademark thunderbolt strikes.

A comfortable victory that could have been a rout without the heroic performance of the Cubs keeper. The boys can move forward to Friday with great confidence.

Mixed U12 Ebors Tadcaster Magnets2 - 3Loss
With Andy away, Darren & Peter picked up the Coaching baton for this traditionally difficult fixture.

Warm up was kept to a minimum to preserve what energy the boys had after a day at school and the game started with Fulford playing uphill. After a brief period of intense pressure, Fulford got into their stride and created the most promising opportunities. Ollie was working very hard upfront and almost found us a goal.

In fact it was Taddy who opened the scoring having been given a bit too much time alone with the ball in our box. Fulford heads were not down though and we continued to push forward (uphill!) at every opportunity. Eventually a ball found Ollie with time and space to smash home an equaliser.

The sides went in all square at half time - an excellent half for Fulford. Darren and Peter praised the boys for their hard work and asked for more of the same in the second period.

The game continued to be even after the break until an accidental meeting of Simeon and Andy's heads necessitated some urgent ice treatment for our right back, Andy. Unfortunately, whilst a man short, Tadcaster pressed hard and eventually managed to scramble the ball over the line for 2-1.

Andy's a brave lad and wanted to come back on and help the team despite his injury. He took a more forward position in an attempt to avoid the need for defensive headers. Fulford pressed hard for an equaliser and found one courtesy of Louis' strong shot from the middle of the area into the centre of the Magnets' net. 2-2 and all to play for.

Both sides had chances, but it was Tadcaster who ultimately prevailed, scoring a breakaway goal a few minutes from time.

It was an even match and a draw would have better reflected the balance of play. Darren and Peter complimented the boys on the quality of the football they had played and the fight they had showed against one of the top teams in York.

Look out York Cubs on the 28th!

Match Report v Dringhouses (h) Cup 19/04/15

Our biggest game of the season to date versus Dringhouses in the cup at home was set up in fine fashion, a midweek close call draw could not split the sides going into this game.

Selecting the starting 9 was very difficult indeed but after looking at several permutations Andy K and Pete started with the 9 they believed were right for this particular match.

Jake, Simeon, Dougie and Ellis held the back four with Jack, Ethan, Louis and Andy in the midfield with Ollie starting up front alone. Packing the midfield seemed wise especially after the midweek draw.

The game was very even with end to end traffic being played continuing where the game left off midweek but Dringhouses looked a little more hungrier and won the first ball on the majority of the occasions. The Lions defence was very strong though and Dringhouses could not find a way through. The lions had a few first half shots but Dringhouses had a very resolute defence.

Dringhouses scored the all important first goal, their striker lobbed an on rushing Jake who couldn’t stop the ball bouncing into an empty net. The half time score was 1-0 to Dringhouses and Andy K commented on the fact at half time that the Lions needed to pressurise Dringhouses more into making mistakes as Dringhouses did to the Lions with great effect.

The Lions formation also changed at half time to 3-3-2 to attempt to pull level. Damian and Jordan plugged away but the Lions could not find a way through. On the occasions that Jordan broke the Dringhouses defence saw a Dringhouses defender made a last ditch tackle to deny him a shot at goal.

With ten minutes left the Lions again changed formation to 2-3-3 to try force an equaliser but the goal eluded Fulford. The formation change was always going to open up our back line and the fear happened. Dringhouses scored the second goal five minutes from time before Fulford could force an equaliser.

The full time score was 2-0 to Dringhouses and on reflection Dringhouses seemed slightly hungrier and took their chances well. The Lions are now in the plate final versus Rawcliffe and take delight that they are still in the hunt for silverware this season.

The PotM after a player/opposing coach vote went to Simeon who edged the award slightly ahead of Dougie and Louis.

Well done to all and slightly unlucky today but heads must be held high and get ready for our last three games of the season v Tadcaster (away), York Cubs (home) and Rawcliffe in the plate final.

Mixed U12 Ebors Dringhouses2 - 2Draw
Our first midweek game since before Christmas saw the Lions pit themselves against Dringhouses away. This game promised to be a closely fought game with the teams being 3rd & 4th in the league. A Lions victory would put them on equal points with Dringhouses.

The boys were confident but knew the quality throughout the Dringhouses team however quality stems through the Lion’s side so a great match was on the cards.

Fulford started strongly with some crisp one touch passing that was evident in the recent game against Rawcliffe and continued the same tempo. The Lions had all 11 players available and choosing a starting 9 was a tough decision but the management decided that the team v Rawcliffe that won convincingly should start v Dringhouses.

Jake kept goal with Andy, Doug and Ellis in defence. The midfield consisted of Jack, Ethan, Simeon and Damian with Ollie sole striker. Ollie and Damian continued to change with each other to keep the Dringhouses defence on their toes. Louis returned from Australia and Jordan from his break and both were eager to get on the pitch to cause mayhem.

The game was very even with both teams having chances. Dringhouses hit the crossbar in their main effort but Ollie and Jack were very unlucky not to score for the Lions forcing Dringhouses goalkeeper into making good saves.

The opening goal came on the 19 minute mark when Ollie used his strength to bulldoze through the Dringhouses defence and hit a low shot to the left of the Dringhouses gk to put the Lions ahead. The 100 mph tempo of the game was pulsating, difficult for both sets of parents to watch and exciting for the neutral fan. Dringhouses struck an equaliser within one minute of the half time whistle being first to a loose ball.

The score was 1-1 at half time but the game was even and would take real effort to take the win. Andy K and Pete congratulated the boys on a great first half but stated the same would be needed in the second.

The second half started in the same fashion, the back 3 were on great form, Andy H played the wing back role in style motoring up and down the wing and must have been tired last night at home! Jake commanded his area well, making some great stops indeed. Doug was immense and Ellis was unbeatable. Louis came on at half time to bring his ‘Aussie style’ footie to the game and immediately showed his battling skills putting in some crunching tackles. Ethan had the job to look after the Dringhouses most dangerous player and carried out the job well whilst still performing his dead ball skills in the usual fashion. Simeon carried his tenacious tacking from the last game against his school mates and again took no prisoners in his efforts to win the ball. Ollie and Damian and Jack attacked well and scared Dringhouses. Jordan came on the pitch and immediately put himself about looking confident. A goal from Jordan would be welcomed to reward his efforts......

The game was end to end and would take a moment of magic to win it. Dringhouses, fielding a makeshift 'keeper found him wanting with a poor clearance that was picked up by Jack on the left. His intelligent and selfless ball into the box found Jordan who lashed it into the centre of the net to put Fulford 2-1 up and dreaming of a great win.

Dringhouses could not be faulted for effort and had a goal disallowed for offside but were not to be denied and with 30 seconds to go stole the equaliser, Banky evading a couple of tackles to plant the ball into our net to make it 2-2.

The full time whistle went seconds after the restart and a well fought 2-2 draw was earned by both teams.

The score was a fair result on reflection but a great game of football was on show for all to watch. The teams pit themselves together again on Sunday in the cup semi final however the Lions have nothing to fear and if they repeat this form then have the ability to win the semi-final.

Every player was exceptional indeed but Dougie slightly took the nod for the PotM for his relentless work denying the Dringhouses attack a plethora of chances.

Well done to all and take the knowledge that with the same commitment on Sunday then they have little to fear against a strong Dringhouses team.

Mixed U12 Ebors Rawcliffe5 - 0Win
The return league game versus Rawcliffe looked a tough game today especially after our 3-2 win at their ground earlier on in the season. The Lions were confident but Rawcliffe are a good side and have pulled some good results this season against the top teams in the league.

Simeon, Doug and Ellis played across the back with Jack, Ethan and Andy in midfield with Ollie and Damian starting up front. The Lions only had 9 players today due to the unavailability of Louis and Jordan who were on holiday in Australia and Amsterdam respectively.

The game began with Rawcliffe looking stronger for the first 5-10 minutes with Fulford struggling to compose themselves on the ball. A few chances came Fulford’s way but they couldn’t be converted. Jake was busier today than normal in the first half but held his own with some great goalkeeping. Rawcliffe were unlucky not to go a goal up when their striker headed a cross over the bar. Fulford struggled to gain the upper hand in the game as Rawcliffe packed the midfield.

Fulford took the lead however when Andy H crossed short to Ollie who put the ball in the back of the net. Rawcliffe almost immediately hit back which saw Jake push a long range shot from Rawcliffe’s dangerous player against the post.

The score at half time was 1-0 but the result looked difficult to call at this stage.

Andy K and Pete saw that the midfield needed bolstering to aid Ethan so in the second half the formation changed from 3-3-2 to 3-4-1. Ollie continued up front with Damian moving to right midfield. Simeon was given an opportunity to show what he could do in central midfield with Andy filling Simeon's boots at right back. The move worked wonders with all three proving a revelation in the new positions. Simeon’s tigerish battling saw Ethan’s creativity become more evident as Damian and Jack came more into the game due to the Lions utilising the width more. Rawcliffe were nullified and Jack soon put the ball in the net after a great left wing run. Ethan scored a third after whipping in a free kick that eluded everyone and squirming through the keepers legs. Ethan pushed in some cracking corners and Doug was unlucky when he headed one of these corners just over.

Ollie Jack and Damian continued to torment the Rawcliffe defenders and all three were unlucky not to add more goals. However at the 45 min mark Ollie added a second from a rebound and shortly after calmly ran through and slotted the ball past the Rawcliffe goalkeeper from a lovely Damian pass to make it 5. Hat trick to Ollie.

The Lions were rampant after the best half of football they have played this season. They tore apart a very good Rawcliffe team. The final score was 5-0 and could have been 7 or 8, every single player fought hard and should be proud of their performance.

Even though all the players were excellent, one player today stood up to the captain’s performance and fought for everything ensuring Fulford completed the double over Rawcliffe this season. Step up Simeon, well done on edging the PotM today, deserved.

With only 3 more league games to come, the Lions have set themselves up for a good final run in to the end of the season and still remain in the cup competition.

Mixed U12 Ebors Hamilton Panthers1 - 1Draw
Won 3-1 on penalties

A game versus Hamilton Panthers awaited the Lions on a fresh spring day. The Lions were confident as the Panthers are a division 2 side but Andy Kay warned the side against complatency.

The game began at 100 mph; the Panthers were hungry and were first to every loose ball with what seemed a greater work ethic. Technical ability sided with the lions but the grit shown by the Panthers nullified this.

The Lions had plenty of possession but could not capitalise on this until 10 minutes from half time when Ollie threaded a ball through to Damian who pushed the ball wide of the Panthers goalkeeper to put the Lions 1-0 up.

Half time came and Andy warned the lions that the game needs a second goal for the Lions; until that time the game was open to an equaliser.

The Lions went out and were still second to every ball and the Panthers really wanted the scalp of the Lions this game. An scrappy equaliser came for the Panthers and put the score at 1-1.
The Lions could not force a second however the play was camped in the Panthers half.

The full time whistle came and Pete told Andy that penalties would decide the outcome. Andy had a word with the boys to see who was up for the penalty kicks. 6 hands went firmly up in Louis, Simeon, Jack, Ollie, Damian and Jordan. In that order were the kickers selected. 5 and a sixth in the event of sudden death.

Andy told Jake not to guess the side of the penalties but watch the ball and then make the save. This advice was taken by Jake. Andy also told the penalty takes to keep the ball low and on target and every chance it would go in.

On the day, the first three penalty takers scored with cool finishes to the corner of the goals. Jake stepped up with 3 great penalty saves to win the game for the Lions. On a day when the Lions were not at their best, Jake stepped up and won them the game and deservedly took the PotM award.

Semi finals here we come, well done to all.

Mixed U12 Ebors Easingwold Hawks1 - 1Draw
Easingwold Hawks at home would present the Lions with a test given the fact the hawks were on a four match winning run and are breathing down the Lions necks in 5th place. At least a draw was needed to ensure they did not gain ground on the Lions.

The game was a closely fought contest with both teams making mistakes in the middle of the field. Jake was called into action frequently and did very well. Easingwold scored the opening goal with a very soft goal conceded. The Lions fought back and attacked well but were unable to force the ball home. A Damian cross forced the Easingwold defender to put the ball into his own goal under pressure from Ollie.

The score was 1-1 at half time. The Lions had 3 or 4 clear cut chances in the first half but unable to make them count.

The second half was very similar to the first. On the instance that Jack put the ball over the line, it was adjudged by the referee that the ball had gone out of play moments before he put the ball in the net from a tight angle. Fulford had 5 or 6 clear chances in the second half but still couldn’t force the ball home.

The final score was 1-1 which did not harm either side’s confidence and will go a long way to helping to cement Fulford’s top four league finish.

The majority of Fulford players battled hard today but were unlucky. Andy deciding to give the PotM without the player’s vote needed due to one outstanding performer today. Ellis is an unsung hero in the fact he turns out week in, week out. He is recently playing very well indeed justifying the reasoning to attempt to mould him a left back in the first instance near the beginning of the season.

Good effort to all.

Mixed U12 Ebors Rawcliffe3 - 2Win
We began our away league fixture v Rawcliffe with the knowledge that we played two close games with them last year however York City had visited both teams and taken several players from both so the Lions still expected a tough game today.

The Lions started the game with 10 players. Damian was injured and came to watch which showed his devotion to the team and good to see.

Simeon, Doug and Ellis began in defence in front of Jake with Ethan, Jack and Andy starting in midfield with Ollie and Louis as forwards.

The Lions were warned if they started in the regular pattern of ‘taking time to get going’ then we would go 1-0 down and struggle. However the Lions turned the tide and started very strongly indeed. Within 5 minutes Ethan threaded a pass to Ollie who put the Lions 1-0 ahead with a calm finish. Shortly after Ethan whizzed in a trademark corner and Ollie again headed it home. 2-0 up after 12 minutes was just what the doctor ordered! However Rawcliffe are a good team and began to stamp their authority on the game, became first to every ball and looked dangerous. Simeon was particularly strong today and mopped up everything (resulting in the Rawcliffe coach 'tongue in cheek' asking Andy K to give Sim a rest on the side-lines!)

Ellis and Dougie were busier than normal and both had to make last ditch tackles to stop Rawcliffe gaining a shot at Jake’s goal. Jordan was unlucky, his efforts were evident but the ball did not get through to the attacking positions he prefers them too denying him any clear goal scoring chances.

At 2-0 up Ethan was felled just outside the box but flashed the resulting free kick over the bar and missed a chance to make it 3-0. Rawcliffe stepped up further and deserved their goal which made the score 2-1. Half time came and the team talk was on the fact that the Lions were respecting Rawcliffe too much and allowing them to play effective football. The Rawcliffe coach had a 1 minute breather hoping to turn around quickly as Fulford were on the ropes so Andy made the most of the HT break and held the boys back from a quick restart in order to attempt to stem the barrage of Rawcliffe attacking football.

The second half began with Rawcliffe calling the shots. They attacked in waves but a counter attacking move by Jack saw him clear the Rawcliffe back 3 and position a great shot wide of the Rawcliffe goalkeeper. Fulford were 3-1 against the run of play. Andy K informed Pete that Fulford rarely concede two/three goals and made a tactics change in order to stop a second and third Rawcliffe goal. The change bolstered the midfield to 4 with a sole striker. This seemed to work and Fulford attacked more and were unlucky not to add a fourth. Rawcliffe however kept going and did eventually score a second goal from a corner that the Lions did not clear properly. 3-2 game on. The defence had a magnificent last ten minutes and Jake made 2 brilliant stops to deny Rawcliffe an equaliser.

The full time whistle arrived and allowed Andy K, Pete H and the parents to stop chewing their finger nails! Fulford had beaten Rawcliffe 3-2 away which was a great result under the circumstances and a neutral would state maybe a draw was a fair result. The Lions were over joyed however to have the 3 points and open a 12 point lead over Rawcliffe in 4th and 5th place respectively.

The PotM from Andy K and Pete went unanimously to Simeon for his captain’s performance however a mention must go to Ollie for 2 great goals, Ellis for his great defending and Jake for 2 crucial saves near the end.

Well done all.

Mixed U12 Ebors Pickering town5 - 0Win
A league game versus Pickering Town on a fresh spring day awaited the Lions who were ‘up for it’ and confident after 2 recent 5 and 6 nil victories. Having Dougie back from his holiday only strengthened the defence.

The Lions started the game very well with Pickering defending deep. The Lions began in a familiar 3-3-2 formation. Jake kept goal with Ellis, Dougie and Simeon ahead of him. Ethan, Louis & Jack began across the middle of the park with Damian and Ollie playing deep up front.

In training we worked on playing the 'through' ball in between the opponents defence for our strikers to run on to and today Andy K was looking to see this in the game.

Ollie calmed the players initial nerves with a fine low right foot shot that nestled in the bottom right corner to put the Lions 1-0 up after 20 minutes. The Lions had an abundance of chances to make the score line greater. Ellis imparticular attacked down the left in true ‘Ashley Cole’ style and was unlucky not to score when a Pickering defender cleared his effort off the line. Damian added the second soon after with a great finish. With 5 minutes to go in the first half Louis arrowed through a fine ball to breach the Pickering defence allowing Ollie to run on to it and lash it home to make it 3-0. The training plan was evident.

Half time saw the Lions 3-0 up. We began the second half very strong. Ethan turned his game up a notch and with Louis played some very intelligent balls thorough onto Ollie and Damian's runs. Damian managed to get himself on the end of one of Ethan’s crosses to strike the ball into the top of the goal to make it 4-0. Jack was unlucky not to add to the score line with a shot that has ‘crossed’ the line in Andy Kay’s opinion just before the Pickering defence cleared the ball. The referee aired on caution and disallowed the goal. Ellis was also unlucky with a further 2 chances. Simeon was rock solid with Dougie and Ellis at the back ensuring Jake would not concede today.

Fulford attacked in waves playing some great football on either flank with Jack and Louis troubling the Pickering wings. The Pickering goalkeeper however played very well. The fifth goal came from an Ethan long range shot that took a wicked bobble to leave the Pickering goalkeeper helpless to make it 5-0.

The game ended 5-0 but Fulford on another day could have had 10 with Ollie and Damian unlucky not to bag a hat trick each.

All 9 Fulford players played very good today with Andy deciding on the players to vote for the PotM keeping his contenders in his mind. Ellis, Simeon and Ethan were unlucky on a day that Ollie played very well and took the most votes (3).

A great performance from the Lions that ensures the visit to Rawcliffe next week (in what will be a tough match) will be approached with confidence after scoring 16 and conceding zero goals in the last 3 games. This particular statistic shows how good our attacking and defending football is currently being played.

Well done to all.

Mixed U12 Ebors Carr Vikings5 - 0Win
A league game versus Carr Vikings on a typical dull and dreary winter’s day was ahead of the Lions but ten men were available today which gave Andy and Pete a selection dilemma to start the game. It was good to have the team captain ‘Simeon’ and ‘Damian’ back fresh from their CFD visit of FC Barcelona to view at first hand how great football is played.

The Lions started the game very tentatively on a very undulating pitch which wouldn’t allow a true roll of the ball. This saw several mistakes made by players in the team and it took 10 minutes for the Lions to become ‘aware’ of the situation. The formation today was an unfamiliar 2-1-3-2 given Dougie was absent. Jake kept goal with Ellis and Simeon ahead of him with Ethan playing just in front of the defensive pair. Louis, Jack and Andy started across the middle with Jordan and Ollie up front.

Carr started very tenaciously and were first to every loose ball. It took an inspirational Ollie run and shot that whistled in the top left corner to settle the boys. A substitution was made every 10 minutes and Damian soon got into the game hustling the Carr defence into a series of mistakes and was unlucky not to score in the first half. Ethan began to whistle in the corners to which Louis headed one home with a deft touch to put the Lions 2-0 ahead. The Lions began to settle at this stage. Andy Hanson tested the goalkeeper with a long range shot that smacked the crossbar which was very unlucky not to go in.

Half time came with the Lions 2-0 ahead.

The second half was one way traffic and more shooting practise for the Lions. Jake had a very quiet second half with the defence protecting him well. Ethan was unlucky with a few set pieces, one imparticular flew just wide. Ollie headed in his second and the teams third from another great corner to ensure the game was comfortable from then on.

Damian added a fourth with a ‘cheeky’ chip over the goalkeeper’s head just before Andy Hanson was rewarded for his all round gameplay with the fifth. He pursued the Carr left back before robbing the ball and placing a sweet right foot shot into the corner of the goal. The Lions were unlucky not to add to the tally but their shooting boots evaded them.

The game ended 5-0 just as the rain began. A ‘quick’ team talk was given praising the team; Andy and Pete were unsure on who earned the PotM between Andy and Ollie. The players voted which saw Andy take 4 votes with Ollie taking 3. The PotM was Andy but Ollie ran him very close indeed. A mention to the defence and Jake requires to be echoed as these are the ‘unsung’ heroes which make a successful side.

A great performance today to ensure a good win against a team that belies their league position.

Mixed U12 Ebors Elm Park6 - 0Win
Another game was faced with only 8 players available due to school holiday trips meaning the ‘magnificent 7’ in our last game reverted to the ‘Excellent’ 8. The boys were against a strong division 3 side in the league cup in Elm Park however if the Lions kept calm and composed; not concede an early goal then confidence would flow and a win was achievble.

Jake returned from his bout of flu which immediately gave the outfield players confidence. Andy K started with 3 at the back in Ethan, Ellis and Andy; Louis, Jack and Ollie in the midfield with Jordan operating solely in the striker position. Ethan wore the captain’s armband in the absence of Simeon.

The Lions were very cautious for the first 15 minutes but soon stepped up a gear when they began to sprightly pass the ball around. Elm Park used the extra man wisely giving the Lions no time on the ball. Jack made a great run and was tripped in the area, Ollie hit a great penalty but saw the Elm Park goalkeeper make an equally great save. Ethan continued his trait of ‘great’ set pieces and Ollie was unlucky not to put in one of his corners in but headed narrowly over the bar.

Half time came with the sides nullifying each other, the additional ninth man was crucial. Andy K told the Lions to relax, play good football, shoot more often and they would be victorious. The tactics were changed to play only 2 at the back, push Andy into his favoured right midfield spot and Ollie partnered Jordan up front. A 2-3-2 formation was new but could be played on a day like today.

Jordan was very effervescent on the ball up front, held the ball up well bringing Andy, Jack, Louis and Ollie into play; the hard work paid off when Ollie got on the end of an Ethan run and low cross 5 minutes into the second half to fire it home. We could have been 1-0 down at that stage but the only part of the half that Elm Park broke our side down saw Jake spread himself against the on-running Elm Park striker to force him to push his shot wide.

The Lions didn’t look back from this moment. Ethan and Ellis were very cool and composed on the ball with some great play spreading the ball wide to break Elm Park down.

Louis struck a great right footer which arrowed into the top corner to make it 2-0. Andy Hanson added a third using his amazing speed and coolly slotted it in despite the onrushing goalkeeper trying to deny him.

Jack Bachelor was rewarded with his great efforts with a fourth goal before 2 predatory Jordan strikes completed the scoring.

The final score was 6-0 which was a reflection on how 8 can break down and be victorious against 9. Elm Park worked hard but Fulford played very well in the second half.

There were some commanding performances notably from Louis and Ethan but Jack took the players vote when the voting was cast with 4 of the 8 votes gained. A great all round performance was rewarded with a quarter final place in the cup. The Lions believe they can emulate last seasons final defeat and on this performance when all the players are back then it is very possible.

Well played to all.

Mixed U12 Ebors Easingwold Hawks2 - 3Loss
Fulford Lions were against it from the start when it was known that they only had 7 players able to play against Easingwold Hawks at Easingwold. Fulford had 4 players out for various genuine reasons and had no choice but to pit themselves against a good full strength Easingwold team.

Fulford started the game very well indeed in a game which saw the 7 start strongly against Easingwold’s 9. Fulford defended resolutely for 15 minutes only allowing Easingwold long distance shots. Jordan began the game as goalkeeper in light of Jake’s illness (the boys wish him well as well as Jack’s recovery with a suspected fractured elbow) and he looked confident in between the sticks.

The defence of Simeon, Dougie and Ellis looked absolutely solid and were aided with the hard work of Damian, Louis and Ethan in midfield. We were unable to start with a striker so emphasis was on the midfield to give 125% effort supporting the defence and break away attacks in order to score a goal.

Fulford scored the first goal of the game with Damian breaking through the Easingwold defence and finishing well. Easingwold quickly pulled a goal back from a long range shot which finished high in the net giving Jordan no chance. It was 1-1 at half time and Damian asked to swap with Jordan as goalkeeper.

The second half was much the same vein, the lions defenders not allowing Easingwold through and long range shooting was their only option. Simeon then showed a moment of Captain’s inspiration, sprinted down the right hand side and fire in a far corner shot to put the Lions 2-1 up. Andy and the parents were elated at such a brilliant performance and thought the unthinkable could be achieved. The Lions were unlucky not to score a third from a great Ellis run but his shot was inches wide.

The boys were looking very very tired with ten minutes left and Louis asked to swap goalkeeper duties with Damian. Louis ran his legs off and needed a rest. Easingwold took advantage of the tired legs of the Lions with 2 long range shots in the last five minutes that eluded Louis due to the height of the ball. The third went in off the far post just as a 2-2 draw looked likely.

The final whistle saw the lions lose 3 goals to 2 however in light of 7 v 9 this was a REMARKABLE result. Andy and the parents were very proud of the Lions who looked shattered at the end of the game.

Easingwold coach congratulated the lions on such a great performance and stated a draw would have been a fair result. The Lions look forward to their next game with a full strength side to call upon to take this battling creditable performance to another level. The Lions would also like to congratulate Andy Hanson on his silver place in the Northern athletics championships, the Lions knew his pace would win him awards..

Andy did not give a PotM as all 7 players were brilliant on a day that could have seen a defeat under an avalanche of goals with a different approach to the game. A battle all the boys should be proud of.

Mixed U12 Ebors Haxby7 - 0Win
Fulford were at home against Haxby in a game they needed to win to restore the confidence after the recent loss by the odd goal against Huntington.

The lions only had 9 men so all knew with the benefit of no substitutions no one could afford an injury or playing below the high standard they have all displayed all season.

Fulford started the game very tentatively and were unlucky not to be a goal down as the Haxby striker pushed the ball wide of the post when clean through on goal. From this moment Ollie grabbed the game by demonstrating a great run and enthusiasm which echoed through the team.

Louis then put Fulford ahead with a cool close range finish having opened up the opportunity for himself. Fulford then began to practise what has been recently emphasised in training with the ‘shoot when the opportunity is given’. This resulted in more shots but still struggled to find a second.

Another mesmerising Ollie run saw him cross low and hard and Damian scored from close range.

The Lions were 2-0 up at half time and came out of the half time team talk looking a different side and passed the ball well.

Damian added a third with a fantastic shot that went in of the far post and Ollie soon added himself to the scorers list with a great shot in the far corner. Damian completed his hat trick soon after with another great shot.

Ethan continued to put in his trademark corners but we could not force on in today but Ethan put his name on the score sheet with a great left shot that had power and was placed out of the keepers grasp. Jordan added the seventh with a neat header from a Damian cross to complete the scoring. Jordan’s intelligent play and work rate was exemplary and the Haxby coach mentioned it to Andy K at the end.

The defence of Simeon, Dougie and Ellis put in another strong performance and look a quality defensive trio at the back protecting Jake.

The final score was 7-0 and after a close call the PotM was given to Ollie for his effort and all round play and was rewarded with a goal. He was very unselfish today creating lots of chances.
Damian and Jordan were very close to the accolade after some good work and formed a decent partnership up front. Louis had a great game also playing in the strikers with some fine through balls.

Mixed U12 Ebors Huntington0 - 1Loss
Fulford were up against the runaway league leaders in Huntington on a blustery day which would prove to make the conditions difficult. Fulford began the day in a different 3-1-3-1 formation with Ethan playing in a defensive midfield role. The wind without doubt stopped either side playing their usual passing football. Huntington were the slightly stronger team and edged a goal from a ‘pinball’ incident in the Fulford goalmouth which was toe-poked in.

We were 1-0 down at half time but the first half was entertaining. A few changes were made at half time and Fulford came out attacking trying to gain the equalizing goal. Our formation changed to a more attacking formation which nearly paid dividends. Two chances were missed and the Huntington goal was being attacked however the Fulford defence held the line well. It was notable that Jake made a few saves but not really tested against the league leaders.

Ethan carried out the man marking of Luke Jones (Huntington key player) very very well allowing him little space to dominate the game in his usual style. Dougie, Ellis and Simeon were very good with the midfield of Jack, Louis, Andy and Jordan playing well. Damian and Ollie chased and chased but came up against a strong Huntington defence.

The final score ended with Fulford losing our 8 match unbeaten run with a 1-0 loss but a draw would have been a fair result. Fulford Lions can take heart after this defeat knowing there wasn’t a great difference between ourselves and the league leaders.

The PotM was voted by the players and Ethan gaining 7 votes who edged it with a great performance just ahead of Simeon and Dougie. A great all round performance and Fulford can take heart from a battling display.

Mixed U12 Ebors Strensall6 - 0Win
Today’s game was against Strensall at home in the league and being down to nine fit players put the pressure on from the start.

The lions began hesitantly allowing Strensall to attack freely but found Simeon, Dougie and Ellis in top form, protecting Jake well.

The catalyst for the team performance began when Andy received a fine Louis pass, took one touch and fired the ball in the bottom corner of the Strensall goal giving their gk no chance. This pivotal moment saw the team spring into action; Louis and Ethan began to boss the midfield. Andy’s pace began to terrorise the Strensall defence and one of his run's saw Damian head in a cross at the far post to make it 2-0.

This was the score at half time. Andy K told the boys to relax and play football, ‘pass and move’ with direction to shoot on sight.

A different team came out with more belief and attacked in waves. Jordan and Damian worked very well together up front. Jordan scored the 3rd from a rebound from a Damian shot; putting into practise ‘being alert’ for any rebound which we study at training. Jordan took great confidence from this goal and continued to hold the ball up well with some very unselfish play. Damian scored a fourth from a clever Ellis through ball to make it 4-0.

Ethan soon after added a fifth with a ‘trademark’ free kick from the left giving the keeper no chance to save it as it swerved with some power. The sixth and final goal was a ‘team’ goal. Andy fed Louis who played the perfect pass for Jordan to run onto and flick the ball over the oncoming Strensall goalkeeper where the ball nestled into the corner of the goal. A joy to watch.

The game finished 6-0 and was the result of a ‘total’ team played game.

The defence were dominant today with Sim, Dougie and Ellis looking very good. Ethan, Louis and Andy in the ‘new look’ midfield played very well feeding Damian and Jordan who forged a great partnership together.

The PotM went to Jordan for his 2 goals and great unselfishness play. He has developed at a rate recently and is coming into his own. He was chased closely for the accolade by a fine Andy Hanson performance who showed his pace is untenable for any defender in this league. That was the last performance in 2014 for the Lions and showed just how well the team can adapt after losing 2 very good players in George and Alfie to York City FC. We wish Alfie and George well for the future.

Well done again to the Lions after a very good performance.

Mixed U12 Ebors Pickering4 - 0Win
Today’s game was against Pickering away in the league which would prove to be a tricky game given the 48hrs worth of rain prior to the game making the conditions underfoot ‘very heavy’.

For the first game this season we had all 12 players in attendance with the 3 York City triallists bolstering the squad late notice due to a cancelled York City game.

The lions began the game very delicately and invited Pickering to attack. The defence of Ellis, Dougie and Simeon were very strong and limited Pickering to only a few direct shots on game which allowed Jake to show his great ‘shot stopping’ ability.

Ethan created his first assist from one of his corners which allowed Ollie to bundle the ball into the net to put the Lions 1-0 ahead. Pickering came back and the result from a corner saw Jake make a massive contribution to the game by somehow clawing the ball to safety after the ball had ‘spun’ on the crossbar.

Jordan was partnering Ollie upfront and they complemented each other well. It was this partnership that saw the Lions go 2-0 up. Damian from his unusual midfield role fed Ollie who in turn rolled the ball into Jordan’s path before he fantastically placed a low shot into the corner of the goal giving Pickering goalkeeper no chance. 2-0 to the Lions and the confidence began to show. Prior to half time Ethan dropped two corners into the penalty box allowing Damian to finish and Ollie head one home giving Ethan a hat-trick of assisted corners. It was noted to Andy and Pete from the Pickering coach that his team didn’t like facing the corner ‘specialist’. Andy began to show his pace to the Pickering defence who struggled to cope with the speed and was unlucky with a few great runs. Half time came with the Lions 4-0 ahead.

Alfie, Louis and George came on for the second half (a cracking substitution bench for any team in the York league) and continued to dominate the midfield. Alfie, George and Andy were unlucky not to find themselves on the score sheet particularly Andy who hit the foot of the post with an angled shot.

Jake had a quiet second half mainly due to the superb back three who were on top of their game.

The Lions had a myriad of chances in the second half but couldn’t capitalise but the panacea to the boggy pitch was found; pass and move and aim to win as many corners as the Lions could!

The game ended 4-0 allowing another clean sheet to be annotated on the Lion’s seasons stats to date. A good victory given the circumstances on the day.

The PotM for Fulford was selected the manager and coach both deciding that Simeon shaded the game on a day everyone gave all and a notable mention given to Doug who played very well and Jordan gave a battling performance added a goal and showed when playing with confidence he is a real handful for any defence.

Well done again to the Lions.

Mixed U12 Ebors Carr Vikings8 - 1Win
Today’s game was against Carr Vikings at home in the league.

The organisations were thrown into chaos 25 minutes from kick off time when it was learnt that there was no referee. Andy was the only person who was willing and dressed accordingly and thus stepped up with Neil Blackwell and Darren Eccles taking over coaching roles for the day.

The lions began the game very strongly and were soon 2-0 up through an Ollie strike and a Dougie goal from an Ethan corner. Carr however pulled a goal back which ‘unsettled’ the lions. Dougie replicate the prior corner again being on hand to bundle another Ethan corner in the net to make it 3-1.

The Lions had a plethora of chances but wanted to walk the ball over the line instead of shooting on sight which saw 6 or 7 chances go begging which should have resulted in more goals.

The Lions were 3-1 up at half time. Andy popped over with the coaches to give his view on team play from the official’s place in the centre of the pitch stating more passing and moving is needed and take the shots when they present themselves.

The second half was one way traffic with Jake, Simeon, Dougie or Ellis being rarely troubled.

Louis, Ethan, George and Jordan worked hard in midfield with Damian and Ollie causing problems.

A further 5 goals were added in the second half to give a comfortable 8-1 final score line. The goals were added by Ollie (a further 2) to complete his hat trick, George (1) and Damian added 2. One particular goal to note was Jordan’s selfless pass to set up Damian when he could have converted it himself but chose to allow Damian the shot.

The final score was a fair reflection of how the game rolled however Carr Vikings battled and battled never giving up.

The PotM for Fulford was selected by the players with Dougie taking 8 of the 10 votes for a unanimous decision.

Well done again to the Lions.

Mixed U12 Ebors Tadcaster Albion8 - 1Win
Today’s game was against Tadcaster Albion away in the league cup, the cup we reached the final of last season.

We began the game strongly and attacked Tadcaster immediately going 2-0 up after 5 minutes through 2 Ollie goals.

A loss of concentration saw Tadcaster pull a goal back through a free kick which saw all our players watch the ball creep in the corner. One could tell that the players felt down after such a good start and from this moment struggled to break down a resolute Tadcaster defence. The opposing goalkeeper saved a number of shots however Louis scored a left foot rocket with 6 mins of the half left. Damian and Ellis troubled the defence but couldn’t add any further goals in the first half.

The lions were 3-1 up at half time and looked comfortable. Ethan continued his excellent corner taking and managed to score 2 goals straight from the set piece whipping the ball in with pace which swerved straight into the goal.

Dougie and Simeon looked firm at the back with our midfield playing well but the attacking aspect lacked the ‘pass and move’ football but the Lions kept persevering. In the second half the lions added additional goals from Damian and George (who scored 2), his second a well aimed shot into the roof of the net.

Jordan played with confidence today and looked good in the second half working well with Damian.

The game ended 8-1 which was a fair reflection of how the game was played however Tadcaster Albion never gave in and continuously made the game difficult for Fulford to deny them total control.

The PotM for Fulford was selected by a number of adults , in addition the Tadcaster Albion coach also noted Ethan's corners caused trouble for his team. His defending, two goals and cracking corners sawEthan nudge the PotM award but all the team played well.

Well done again to the Lions, we look forward to the 2nd round draw and hope to emulate last years effort in the Cup.
