| Match report | Fulford finished the league season with a 2-1 victory at Heworth, which had previously been the only away venue at which the team had never won at, over the 4 seasons of mini soccer. Last time we'd played at Hopgrove at the beginning of the U8s season, these mini soccer pitches looked huge, but now felt very small. Despite the lack of space Fulford played some good football, but were prevented from creating any clearcut chances by some good defensive work by Heworth. Fulford took the lead 5 minutes into the second half when a good through ball from Harrison found Will, who waited for the advancing goalkeeper to dive, before coolly lifting the ball over him for a well taken left foot finish. Fulford added a second shortly after when some good build up play down the right by the two Joe's, led to Joe I whipping in a shot from out wide that squeezed in at the near post. Heworth pushed forward looking to get back in the game, and Fulford counter attacked well and Joe and Will nearly added a third but for some last ditch tackles from the Heworth Centre Half. With about 2 minutes left Heworth pulled a goal back following a break down the right, and a good finish from about six yards out. The win completed a good league season for Fulford in which they finished as runners-up. However, congratulations must go to the players, coaches and parents at Champions, Poppleton, for an excellent league campaign, in which they topped the league from start to finish. |
