Match report   It was the Fulford Foxes up against Thornton Dale in a cup semi-final staged at what has been fortress the Outgang all season for the Foxes. Could the Thornon Dale girls come and create an upset and break the Foxes hearts or would it go to Outgang form where the Foxes have been undefeated all season?

On with the game and the Dale were quicker into their stride and were dominating play inside the Foxes half of the pitch. They were certainly asking questions of the Foxes defence marshalled by superbly Sophie G and Charlie and just couldn’t find that final telling ball when it mattered. The Foxes however grew in confidence as the galf wore on and were gradually getting over their hangover from the night before where many of the girls had been partying and letting their hair down and may just have had a few too many glasses of fizzy cherryade. No matter, 8 minutes in and in a great little passing move involving Abby, Emily and Sophie M, ending up with Sophie M playing a great ball to the feet of Amy who slotted home neatly with just the goalie to beat. From then on the game ebbed and flowed, with both teams teasing each other with the ball and giving each other the run around. Then in a very nice free flowing move, the Dale picked open the lock to the Foxes defence for Chole Teasdale to blast home from close range to put the scores level. The half finished very evenly poised at one a piece.

On with the 2nd half and this started off in very similar fashion to the 1st half with the Dale exerting all the pressure on the Foxes defence with Chloe Teasdale in particular running the Foxes a bit ragged. But once again the Dale just couldn’t find that killer pass and the Foxes defence were just about holding firm. After withstanding this early pressure the Foxes began to grow in confidence and were stringing their passes together with both Emily and Amy having some great chances in front of gaol, but were just unable to find their way past the Dale keeper who was having a fine game between the sticks. Then 10 minutes in, Beth galloped down the left riding a couple of challenges and played an inch perfect pass into the path of Emily. This time Emily kept a very cool head and thrashed the ball into the bottom left corner to reel away in celebration.

But still the Dale girls wouldn’t let their heads drop and came back in waves, with Sofia having to be very smart coming off her line to deny the Dale from finding that crucial equaliser. With a couple of minutes left on the clock the game was settled, this time with Abby playing an exquisite pass from the left to put Amy through once more. This time Amy blasted it and it was in the top right hand corner of the net before the keeper could move. Game over, the Dale had put in a very brave display but just could not deny the Foxes that place in the final at the Foxes fortress.

Thornton Dale Girl of the Game: Chloe Teasdale – scored a great goal and certainly asked the most questions of the Foxes defence

Foxes girl of the Game: Emily Wheater – Lead the line extremely well, scoring a lovely goal and mucked in when needed in midfield to keep the pressure on the Dale
