| Match report | The 3 previous meetings between these two teams had all produced exciting matches and this eagerly anticipated game was being billed by some as an unofficial U8s Championship Decider! Playing into the wind in the first half Fulford launched attack after attack with Luca up front and Declan on the right wing, both proving to be a real handful. The goal came after about 6 minutes when Luca went on a mazy run down the left and found Liam on the right hand edge of the area. The keeper came out to narrow the angle, but Liam shot back across the goal and the ball crept in off the left hand post to give Fulford the lead and Liam his first ever goal for Fulford. In the second half, Bishopthorpe had a lot more possession, but some excellent tackles in defence from Jack, plus some great work in midfield from Paul, Harle and Fraser, kept Bishopthorpe at bay. When they did break through, Bishopthorpe were denied by three top class saves by Joe, the best being a save with his feet when a Bishopthorpe striker broke through one-on-one, which gave Joe his 7th clean sheet in 13 matches this season. Fulford looked to add a second goal through some good attacks from Luca and Liam, but the game finished one-nil. It was an excellent match in which there wasn't much between the two teams and both sides will be looking forward to future meetings at the Hamilton Panthers and Haxby tournaments. |
