| Match report | Ripon were the opponents in a game of 2 contrasting halves. In the 1st half the Foxes were at their best, dominating the centre of midfield and moving the ball around very nicely and creating a number of chances. It’s fair to say we could have been 3 up in the 1st 10 minutes but for some smart keeping and some near misses from Amy, Abz and Em. It looked like it was going to be one of those halves where we were not going to be rewarded for our domination until the final minute of the half, when from a goal kick the ball was knocked straight back behind the Ripon defence for Amy as alert as ever to latch onto with the goalie scrambling to get back into position. The goal was gaping an Amy duly obliged to put the Foxes a goal up on half time. It looked a case of then how many would the Foxes score in the 2nd half our domination was so great. It wasn’t to be however as an unrecognisable Foxes team turned up for the 2nd half. Lots of wafted clearances, air passes, mis-placed passes constantly conceding possession to Ripon and putting our defence under immense pressure. Half way through the 2nd half we had a monumental let off when Ripon hit the inside of our post and with an empty goal gaping the Ripon striker somehow contrived to put the ball wide. We did have a few moments when Amy and Em linked up well to create some half chances but these were few and far between as the pressure on the Foxes goal mounted. Finally it gave way in the final minute of the game. Again we had a couple of chances to clear our lines but failed to take them and this time we were deservedly punished and the game finished one-a-piece. Girl of the game: Sofia – Pulled off a number of fine saves including a fantastic reflex save from our very own Sophie M to save her blushes! Well this was a case of the very good, the bad and the ugly. We have shown that we can play some very good, neat, one touch football. But this is a game of 2 halves and next time we need to sustain our good paly as I know we can for the full 60 minutes! |
